Many Massachusetts residents may have woken up to a cold surprise Tuesday morning: more than a foot of snow brought to the state by a roughly 24-hour-long nor’easter.
Forecasters have been predicting for days that a major winter storm, the first nor’easter to hit southern New England in nearly two months, could batter Massachusetts with heavy snowfall, strong winds and some coastal flooding. Their predictions were largely accurate.
According to the National Weather Service’s early snowfall reports, Middlesex and Worcester counties look like they were hit with the most winter precipitation, with 24 inches of snow recorded in Lowell, 22 inches in Athol and 21.8 inches in Acton.
