A Department of Corrections officer who was attacked by an inmate at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla is recovering at home, officials said.
DOC spokesperson Jacque Coe said the unnamed employee returned home after a hospital stay.
“Our thoughts are with them and wishing a swift recovery,” Coe said in an email.
The employee reportedly was attacked by a prisoner last week and was rushed to the hospital with “serious” injuries, Coe said previously. The West Complex temporarily restricted movement after the assault

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) An officer working at the Washington State Penitentiary was hurt by an inmate on Thursday, according to the Washington state Department of Corrections.
Corrections spokesperson Jacque Coe told the Walla Walla Union Bulletin in an emailed statement that the officer at the Walla Walla prison “sustained serious injuries.”
The officer was attacked by a man in a residential unit at the prison Thursday afternoon, Coe said.
The officer was taken to a local hospital where their condition was not made public, the newspaper reported.
Coe said the West Complex of the penitentiary was placed on “restricted movement” Thursday as local law enforcement investigated the assault.

WALL WALLA An officer working at the Washington State Penitentiary was seriously injured by an inmate, according to the Washington state Department of Corrections.
The officer at the Walla Walla prison “sustained serious injuries,” DOC spokesperson Jacque Coe said in an emailed statement. Coe said the injured officer was attacked by a man in a living unit at the prison Thursday afternoon, April 22.
The officer was taken to a local hospital, Coe said. The officer’s condition was not made public.
