Roly Armitage has two kinds of war stories: the ones he likes to tell, and the ones he'd rather not. The first kind are so astounding that they almost defy belief, and so numerous that they don't leave much room to dwell on the second kind.
It was in Holland in 1944 when Dr. Roly Armitage, who once served as mayor of the former West-Carleton Township, saved two kids he spotted on the side of the road late at night. Now, 80 years later, he will be reuniting with one of the kids he saved.
Dr. Roly Armitage, Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame member and past president of the Canadian Trotting Association, was recently recognized for his lifetime achievements by the Ottawa Executives' Association at a surprise luncheon held in his honour.
