The third phase of Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal witnessed sporadic incidents of violence in four constituencies. TMC, BJP, and Congress workers clashed in different areas of Murshidabad and Jangipur seats.
West Bengal Elections 2024: During the second-phase polling in the Balurghat Lok Sabha constituency of North Bengal, tension rose as BJP candidate Sukanta Majumdar had a confrontation with Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers outside a polling station. Three more Bengal seats—Raigunj, Balurghat, and Darjeeling—are also being contested in Phase 2. Majumdar cast his vote early accompanied by his wife and urged people to participate in the democratic process enthusiastically.
At present, there are 277 companies of central forces in West Bengal. By the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in the state, the EC has sought to deploy around 100 more companies.
Mahua Moitra, who was re-nominated by the TMC from the same Krishnanagar seat after being expelled last year, accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of acting as "political agents of the saffron camp".
