A day after the rout in West Bengal, BJP went hammer and tongs against Trinamool Congress, accusing it of sponsoring violence against BJP workers with the party announcing a nationwide dharna on May 5 and its chief J P Nadda going for a two-day visit to the state from May 4 to take stock of the situation. The BJP has announced a nationwide dharna on May 5 against the widespread violence unleashed by TMC workers post the election results in West Bengal. This protest will be held following all Covid protocols across all organisational mandals of the BJP, the party said.

The ruling Trinamool Congress looks set to retain power in West Bengal with its candidates leading in 202 of the state’s 292 seats that went to poll against the BJP’s 79, as trends were available for 286 seats.
Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee was, however, trailing her former protege-turned-BJP rival Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram by over 8,000 votes.
Belying expectations of a tight contest, the TMC candidates appeared galloping to victory, and, if the current trends hold, the party will easily form its third successive government in the state.

NEW DELHI: With Mamata Banerjee powering the Trinamool Congress to a landslide victory in West Bengal overcoming 10 years of anti-incumbency, a full-throttle BJP campaign and a rebellious former lieutenant, she has become the natural leader to guide the Opposition s politics against the BJP in the coming days, some leaders said Sunday.
The TMC s victory in the keenly, and at times acrimoniously, fought elections in the state comes barely a month after Banerjee wrote to Opposition leaders urging them to unite against the BJP.
The TMC s success in many ways is being seen as a victory of the non-saffron parties whose leaders were quick to congratulate her, even though she trailed her former lieutenant, but now BJP leader, Suvendu Adhikari, in Nandigram.
