A report reveals that as many as 196 babies were born inside West Bengal jails, which lack medical infrastructure. The report also suggests conducting pregnancy tests on women before they are jailed and monitoring by chief judicial magistrates.
The Calcutta High Court on Thursday was told that women prisoners were getting pregnant while under custody in prisons of West Bengal and that about 196 babies were said to have been born in different jails in the State.
