By 2018, House of Cool had reached a comfortable place. It had grown to 30 employees and purchased new office space on Toronto s waterfront with the help of BDC. Trying to figure out its next steps, House of Cool also worked with a BDC advisor to create a five-year strategic plan.
Curtis and Lui say the consultant helped them realize they would never reach their goals based on their current trajectory. By taking on too many responsibilities, the two of them became the bottlenecks of the company. We took that seriously and then we decided, OK, we do have to change, Curtis says.
