Microsoft has unveiled the Azure Maia 100 and Cobalt 100 – the first two custom silicon chips designed by the company in a bid to reduce reliance on Nvidia.

While Microsoft has not shared specific stats, the company does note that the Maia AI chip can handle some of the largest AI workloads running on Microsoft Azure, right from training to inference.
