Photo: Supplied 236777 01 Pacific Werribee has partnered with the Werribee Mercy Hospital to distribute gift packs to new mums, to help celebrate Mother’s Day. Forty hampers were delivered to new mothers at the paediatrics ward and the Special Care Nursery unit today, in the lead-up to Mother’s Day. The packs included gifts for both mums and babies. Pacific Werribee centre manager Patricia Gardiner acknowledged the importance of celebrating milestone events with the local community. “It is important to stop and celebrate the positive things in our community. The birth of a child is beautiful and an extremely special time for new mothers, parents, and their families,” she said.

Stroke patient left waiting

By Alesha Capone A Point Cook man has called for an investigation after he waited more than 90 minutes for an ambulance and 75 minutes to be admitted to a hospital bed following a stroke in January. Western Metropolitan MP Bernie Finn raised the incident in Parliament last month, after he was contacted by the stroke victim. Star Weekly has spoken with the 71-year-old man, who has a history of heart attacks and has previously undergone a triple bypass. The man, who asked to remain anonymous, said he was speaking to his son over the telephone on January 28, when he started to have difficulty talking.

Vaccine roll out begins

By Alesha Capone Residents at aged care homes in three Wyndham suburbs will be among the first in the country to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the federal health department, phase 1a of the roll-out, which began this week, will start with aged care centres in 44 suburbs and towns in Victoria including Werribee, Hoppers Crossing and Point Cook. Aged care homes in Altona Meadows, Ballarat, Cowes, Drouin, Lara and Delacombe have also been included in the first week of the roll out. Hundreds of aged care residents, staff and people connected to Wyndham aged care home were diagnosed with the COVID-19 last year.
