Vining Volunteers Memorial Day walk raises $1,650 to support local veterans, family donates time and resources to serve community needs throughout the year.
“There’s nothing for people who are still mobile. We get people with a husband or wife in the rest home up there, and they can live in these houses and walk up to see them, they don’t have to live miles away. These are people still enjoying life, people who have always lived here and don’t want to move yet, they’re not in the end stage of life.” The new houses were being built on the last remaining space on a larger piece of land bought after Picton Hospital closed in 1987, by the trust established to “save the hospital”, comprising mainly health professionals including a pharmacist, a district nurse and a doctor.
