Sales are currently above pre-Covid levels, said Rachel Pope, the owner of   books in central Hamilton. “It’s been really good great books coming in, great books going out.” Further North, Chloe Clennell from  Piggery Secondhand Bookshop in Whangarei concurred: “We’ve been incredibly busy since lockdown,” she said. “I think perhaps people have realized that reading isn’t too bad. And while they were in lockdown it was actually a pretty cool thing to do.
