Based on the fate of the Banff-based Isabella in a deadly gale that lashed the north-east in November 1888, the distinctive metal model is now finished and ready to be installed on the clifftops at Newtonhill.

First section of north-east town s new boardwalk completed

Updated: 11/02/2021, 3:28 pm © Supplied by Aberdeenshire Counci The first section of a new boardwalk in a north-east has been opened. It stretches from Stonehaven harbour car park to Salmon Lane and the River Carron and is part of a project to replace the existing ageing structure. Work is continuing on the final section of the route which will connect the seafront walkway to the bridge over the River Carron. The works have been undertaken by an Aberdeenshire-based contractor, CRC who have worked through difficult weather conditions to complete the project. The Stonehaven Flood Protection Scheme works are continuing and part of that process will involve the replacement of the bridge over the river which will connect with the wooden boardwalk on both sides of the river.

Volunteers at a north-east community larder have helped to feed around 300 households every month since the Covid-19 pandemic began. The Haven, based in Stonehaven’s Market Square, opened as a not-for-profit well being centre in January 2018. But when the coronavirus pandemic hit, founder Julia Morton transformed the yoga studio into a community larder to help those most vulnerable in the area. The service gives members of the public access to food and toiletries with no questions asked. Its shelves are stocked with non-perishable items as well as fresh food nearing its sell-by-date donated by local shops to prevent it from going to waste.
