Ida Parker Jenkins
NEWPORT NEWS Ida Parker Jenkins, 92, peacefully passed away in her sleep Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021. Ida was born Sept. 26, 1928, and was the wife of James A. Jenkins, who preceded her in death May 25, 1988.
Aside from the 15 years when she traveled the world as an Air Force officer’s wife, she lived on the Peninsula her entire life. She lived in the Woodmere section of Newport News since 1964.
In her youth, she worked at First National Bank, Noland Company, in the civil service at Fort Monroe and North American Aviation. In 1963, she became a licensed cosmetologist. In the 1960s and 1970s, she was active in a number of local clubs and organizations, including the local gardening club. She enjoyed crafts and sewing.
