With the Bowery fully rented and a waiting list in place, Welty CEO Don Taylor said he remains bullish on residential development downtown and thinks he has found another great building to turn into apartments.
The building is subject to a call for offers Thursday, July 20, said Christopher Mouron. He and his brothers Drew and Lewis own the building and hope to find a buyer in the bidding process.
The building was purchased by Alabama's Capstone Real Estate in 2020. It has since been converted from student housing to downtown luxury apartments and is almost completely rented out, its owner said.
Shammas Malik made a name for himself, in part, by opposing some applications of Akron's residential tax abatement on greenfield development. That's not likely to change when he takes office, he said but that doesn't mean he has no plans to listen to and work with business leaders.
