Prince Charles carried out his first public engagement since the death of his father by visiting the Welsh Guards at Combermere Barracks today.
The 72-year-old, who is Colonel of the Regiment, took the opportunity to hear first-hand about the group’s activities throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
The Welsh Guardsmen were among the first to roll out COVID-19 testing in the UK and combined with the Royal Anglian Regiment and the Grenadier Guards to set up the first mobile testing units back in March 2020.
Three months later the regiment performed a birthday tribute for the Queen at Windsor Castle incorporating innovative drill moves.

During the parade the Queen inspects soldiers from the Household Division on Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall.
The colourful display of pageantry features 1,400 officers and men on parade, 200 horses and 400 musicians from 10 bands. The Queen always attends and takes the salute.
According to the Household Division, 113 words of command are given by the Officer in Command, and each year a different regiment s colours are trooped.
The parade begins when the Queen departs Buckingham Palace in a carriage, accompanied by a Sovereign s escort from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at 10am.
She used to arrive riding side-saddle on a horse, wearing the uniform of the regiment being trooped. However, since 1987 she has arrived by carriage.
