Officers in the Northern York County Regional Police Department are part of a group of first responders getting the COVID-19 vaccine.Chief David Lash said the vaccine is being made available through WellSpan. It is not mandatory.“I think our first responders should be vaccinated, but I also think it’s a personal choice,” he said.Lash expects more than half of the department’s 62 officers will get the shot.He thinks the vaccination is important, considering what officers experience every day.“We have such frequent interactions with different members of our community. It’s not uncommon for one of our police officers to be in contact with 20, 25 different people a day,” Lash said.Lash said quite a few officers have tested positive for COVID-19 over the last year. He said he contracted the coronavirus in December but has made a full recovery.
