Bill “Buck” Bayless, Sr. (89) passed peacefully on Thursday, February 11th at his home in Wellsburg surrounded by his family, while holding the hand of his loving wife.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Herbert T. Bayless and Virginia Pearl (Keller) Bayless and his brother Herbert R. (Ann) Bayless.
He is survived by the love of his life and his wife of 68 years, Lucille E. (Michetti) Bayless whom he married in 1952 and adored ever since. He also leaves behind three daughters, Debbie Bayless and Sharon Bayless both of Wellsburg, and Rosann (Doug) Groves of Follansbee, who he referred to as ‘my girls” and his son Bill (Jamie) Bayless of Austin, Texas. He was affectionately and lovingly known as “Pappy” to his six grandchildren Aaron Prosser, Jennifer Laird, Ryan (Kim) Bayless, Samantha (Matt) Riska, and Lauren (Michael) Feeley and James Groves, and seven great grandchildren: Cody & Liam Laird, Serenity Shaffer, and Blakely, Barrett & Bowe

WHEELING Two women and two men who have long worked to build better communities will be honored by the Wheeling Martin Luther King Celebration Committee in 2021. Plans for the Jan. 17 Martin Luther King Celebration and March for Justice are still up in the air due to the pandemic. More information will be made available when plans are finalized.
Ellen Saunders of Moundsville and Judi Saunders of Bridgeport will receive the Rosa Parks Award, and Daniel Dudley of Wellsburg and Chase Watts of Martins Ferry will receive the Martin Luther King Award for their contributions in eliminating racial inequity and promoting peace and harmony.

LEASE APPROVED â The Brooke County Board of Education agreed Monday to lease property across from Brooke Middle School to SWN Water Resources, pending the companyâs decision to built a booster pump there to convey water from nearby Cross Creek to natural gas well sites.

WELLSBURG The Brooke County Board of Education agreed Monday to lease property owned by the school district to a natural gas company and chose the least extensive of options for an update to its future building plans.
Steve Mitchell, the district’s director of maintenance, buildings and grounds, told the board the land north of Brooke Middle School near the railroad tracks above Cross Creek.
