WELLSBURG The floating of a new bridge span to its final position across the Ohio River has been pushed back once again.
The West Virginia Department of Transportation and Flatiron Construction announced this afternoon the movement of the Wellsburg Bridge has been rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
Plans, which could be changed because of weather, are now to begin floating the main bridge structure on a series of barges beginning at 8 a.m. Monday. It is expected to put put in position sometime that afternoon, with plans to lift the structure onto its piers beginning early Tuesday.
The project has been delayed multiple times in the last week as a result of weather concerns.

Flatiron Construction is expected to move the large tied-arch span section of the Wellsburg bridge one mile down the Ohio River from its current location along the shoreline at the south end of Wellsburg next week and lift it into place onto the existing piers.

The Wellsburg Bridge liftâs midweek start was pushed Monday to Friday and Saturday. Weather conditions in the Ohio Valley on Wednesday and Thursday made the project too treacherous to start then.
WELLSBURG The much anticipated two-day Wellsburg Bridge lift project, initially scheduled for midweek has tentatively been pushed back to Friday and Saturday, weather pending, according to officials with Flatiron Construction and West Virginia Division of Transportation.
Flatiron Marketing & Communications Representative Jalie Creech said safety factors with Wednesday and Thursday’s local weather forecast pushed the bridge move to Friday and Saturday. She said that, with a project of this magnitude, Flatiron wants to make sure all the weather conditions are in the proper safety margins before moving forward with the project.

The Wellsburg Bridge will provide a key artery for communities in northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio when it opens in the fall of 2022. It will connect WV Route 2 in Wellsburg with Ohio Route 7 in the community of Brilliant.
