An 8,000 pound, 12-foot tall buoy washed up on the beach in Wells, Maine amid a raging spring Nor’easter on April 4. The US Coast Guard then made the decision to retire the red-and-white navigation marker that guards Wells Harbor, residents rallied to save it.
