May 1, 2021 Leona Agnes Perry Aird, age 91, of Wells, NY, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2021, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville. Leona was born on January 29, 1930, to Leon and Agnes (Conway) Perry. A lifetime resident of Wells, she graduated from Wells Central School in 1947. On September 3, 1950, Leona married William P. Aird of Lake Pleasant and had four children. Leona was a member of many organizations over her 91 years. Some include being a lifetime member of the Wells Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Wells Historical Society. She also served as the Town Historian for many years, a position inherited from her mother. Leona will best be remembered for her 33 years of service at Wells Central School, where she was employed as a secretary and then as district treasurer. She knew the name of every kid that walked through the door and they all knew her as “L.A.”

Feb 13, 2021 Marlene Zoller Rust passed away at home on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, after a courageous battle with lung cancer with her family by her side. Marlene was born on January 12, 1953, in Gloversville, NY, to Eugene Zoller and Ruth Morrison Zoller. Marlene began her career at St. Claire’s Hospital in Schenectady as a Radiology Technician but retired from Sunmount DDSO after nearly 30 years. She was also employed by various restaurants in the community through the years. Marlene loved all animals but was especially interested in the welfare of wild animals and spent over a decade as a wildlife rehabilitator. She was very active in the community in various volunteer roles and never missed a chance to help out wherever she was needed. She also enjoyed birdwatching, flowers, exercising her patriotic spirit, gardening, reading, crocheting, sewing, baking, cooking for friends and family, and she especially enjoyed monarch butterflies and preserving their natural habitat.
