Chief meteorologist jeff ranieri is tracking the numbers, but we begin with nbc bay areas Michelle Roberts live in san jose with the move Santa Clara County Water District may soon have to make. Michelle . Reporter yeah thats right. Last month we had that big storm, but january has been completely dry. And if that continues for the next couple of months the Water District will have to put an emergency plan in place. Thats why theyre having this meeting tonight, to discuss that. Currently, the state is asking everyone to voluntarily conserve 20 water. The Santa Clara County Water District says we are falling short. Cutting water use by only 13 in the next two months if we continue to stay dry, water officials expect to ask homeowners to conserve 40 or even 50 , all to protect the groundwater levels. When groundwater aquifers are overdrawn, when you take out more water than youre putting in eventually that ground underneath it starts to compact, and ac
