A Resource Consent application (LU5331)to undertake modifications of All Saints Church has been declined by an independent hearings panel. The Consent filed by the Wellington Diocesan Board of Trustees sought the demolition of the existing baptistry; additions and alterations including a new lobby and reception area, new entrances; office space and a new roof of the heritage church located at 338 Church Street, Palmerston North.

All Saints Church parishioners have been determined to build a new frontage for the central Palmerston North place of worship. “There will be a profound grief in our church over the decision,” Dixon said. “It is a day of great sadness for All Saints’. “A lot of people were hoping to worship again in this building, to come home, and this decision definitely precludes that.” Dixon said the total refusal of consent had taken him by surprise. He had expected the commissioners to agree to the strengthening, but with conditions on the alteration and additional plans that might have been a challenge to understand, agree to and comply with.
