coal mine moment for the democratic party. last night, there was a special congressional race in south texas. it saw a very deep blue sea turn bright red. now, republican mayra flores easily defeated her democratic opponent by eight points in district 34. now, get this, it s the first time in 150 years this district ever elected a republican! in 2012, obama won it by 23 points. 2016, yeah, hillary won it by 22 points. biden only won it by four, but now republican mayra flores, she won it by eight. all right, that would be a 12-point swing in two years, a 30-point swing if you go back to 2016. keep in mind, this is a majority hispanic district. it borders mexico to the south along the rio grande valley. now, mayra actually immigrated to the u.s. from mexico making her the very first mexican-born woman to be elected to congress. she s also married to a u.s. border patrol agent. she made border security a huge focus of her campaign. take a look. too many to many, the borders
since friday, as in today is monday. unbelievably, the country is on pace for its worst year ever of mass shootings. this according to the gun violence archive. that means at least 246 since the beginning of the year. three-year uptick began in 2019. in 2020, it jumped to 610. and then just last year, we were at 692. but with all those numbers, there s really only one number to keep focusing on. i mean, that s if america wants to do something about these other horrible numbers. and that is the number ten, my friends. what would persuade ten republicans in the 50/50 split senate to sign legislation to reduce gun violence. i didn t say eliminate gun violence. the lawyer in me does not want to lead you astray. how about saving as many innocent lives as possible with some kind of action? whether public defenders in the bipartisan group of negotiators, who s working on a potential deal, said it quite well this morning. there is no one thing that will prevent mass killings. a det

in uvalde, texas where president biden will be tomorrow, jeff to you. and the more we learn about the shooting, the more difficult it gets for in community to grasp what exactly happened at robb elementary school. despite what investigators had initially told the public. we learned the shooter was not confronted by anyone from the time he crashed his pickup truck and began shooting at the school. a minute before the suspected shooter crashed that truck, a teacher at the school had walked outside, propped open a door and then went back inside, and left that door propped open. we re learning that 19 officers stood in the hallway of the school for nearly an hour before a border patrol agent showed up with a master key he had found to open up the door to enter and then kill the suspect. and while the clock was ticking for that to happen. investigators disclosed children were calling 911 begging for operators to send in police to help. texas dps say the local incident commander
