During the past two weeks in Africa, dozens of civilians were killed in militant attacks within the Central Sahel; pro-Palestinian demonstrations were reported across multiple countries; and Al Shabaab launched numerous explosive attacks on state forces in both Kenya and Somalia.

Nigeria, Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the Boko Haram Jamatu Ahli is-Sunnah lid-Dawatai wal-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram, was reportedly killed after detonating a suicide vest in the Sambisa Forest. His reported death followed a successful operation by rival Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters to take the JAS forest stronghold. Whilst sources suggest that he is likely to be dead, conflicting accounts have reported that he may have been killed by gunshot rather than a suicide vest (HumAngle, 21 May 2021). MOGADISHU, May 10 (Xinhua) Somali President Mohamed Farmajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Roble have condemned Sunday evening s suicide bomb attack in the restive capital, Mogadishu, that left at least six people dead and six others injured.
In separate statements, Farmajo and Roble sent their condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, including two senior police officers, and wished quick recovery for those injured. President Farmajo sends his profound condolences to families and all Somali people for the loss of police officers and civilians who were killed in Sunday s cowardly terrorist blast in Mogadishu, the president said in a statement.

Five police officers are among at least six people killed Sunday evening in a suicide bombing in Mogadishu, witnesses and officials said.
Major Sadiq Aden Ali, a spokesman for Somali police,confirmed to the media that two police commanders are among those killed.
Major Ahmed Abdullahi Bashane, the commander of Mogadishu’s Waberi district,and Major Abdibasid Mohamud Agey, the former deputy commander of Weliyow Adde police department, were killed along with three other police officers. A civilian who lived next to the station also died the explosion.
The explosion was caused by a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest who approached the officers outside the Waberi district station around 9:30 p.m.& local time, witnesses said.
