EBDG’S WELD PROCEDURE SAVES CONSTRUCTION TIME AND COST, REDUCING DOWNTIME FOR A CRITICAL NATIONAL DEFENSE ASSET
Press Release – Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) led a complex weld engineering and inspection project for the USNS SBX-1. Project success is attributed to a strong team of industry experts including several of our licensed engineers who are certified welding inspectors (CWI) through the American Welding Society (AWS).
EBDG developed an optimized weld procedure for an uncommon grade of steel for Tote Services, LLC, in support of work on the USNS SBX-1 X-band radar vessel. This unique vessel is part of the United States Department of Defense Missile Defense Agency and provides key tracking and identification of potential ballistic missile threats. The Garden State in particular, according to data and experts, offers plenty of opportunity for those interested in a career path that has more demand than supply in the way of workers.
American Welding Society believes the job shortage will reach a deficit of 400,000 workers by 2024. Tradesmen International notes the average age of a welder is 55; fewer than 20% are under the age of 35. New Jersey is one of the areas that continues to have a demand for welders, said Shawn Alexander, president of the Bloomfield campus of Universal Technical Institute.
