For all my quibbles with John Lennon’s shifting politics and social views, that line resonates. If Russell Kirk had worn granny glasses, played electric guitar, and had been more influenced by Lewis Carroll and Elvis Presley than Edmund Burke and Irving Babbitt, he might have come up with the Lennon lyrics first.
