Laura Teare-Jones suffers with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) which affects around one in 20 people who menstruate. However, due to the symptoms, it is often misdiagnosed or not diagnosed and Laura said around one in three will attempt to take their own lives. She told the Leader: “I’ve been living with this since I was a teenager when I had my periods but the way I was feeling was never connected to my cycle. “I’d go the doctors and talk about my low moods or migraines but they didn’t know much about it back then either. “When you’re told there’s no reason to feel the way you are or when you’re suddenly feeling better it’s very easy to blame youtself or assume you are being dramatic or overly emotional but at the same time you don’t understand it.
