i think you said much the same, governor. there should be a weeding out process and maybe it happens in february, around the new hampshire primary. even governor christie himself where he placed all of his marbles back in that in 2016 and didn t do well. he placed sixth in your state and opted out of the race. that mitt romney wants to see the same thing so that everyone can coalesce around one or two alternatives to donald trump. what do you think of that and who might those individuals be? you definitely need to coalesce around one candidate opposite the former president. the fact is, the former president is polling 40% in new hampshire. 60% of the most hardcore based republicans don t want the guy. so on a one-on-one race, that s the path to victory. you ll see about three phases weaning down. there s three or four candidates that don t qualify for the
we suspected that it would get crowded, but at the same time, there s a weeding-out process that gives the american people a chance to look at all the alternatives. a lot of us think that it s time for somebody with a positive message. and i go back. chuck, you ve heard me talk about this before. i think if ronald reagan was here today, i think he would win the republican nomination for the presidency. i think tim scott has a lot of the same things, the same focus. i think when people hear him speak, they re going to hear that same ability to convince people there really is a brighter time ahead for our country and he can bring people together. that s why a lot of us will support tim and believe he would make a very good president. a lot of people at this stage of the game really early right now i think you ll find that tim has a real good shot at it. yeah, the front-runners are out there and people pay attention because if you look that far ahead, what are you going to do? but w
bernie, that s pretty good company. it s biden, it s bernie, at some point it might be brown. it s obviously beto o rourke, too, and this underlying idea that they would be more electable because they would win, maybe, in the midwest. these polls show he would be competitive in texas, maybe he would be competitive in wisconsin, too. who knows if any of this is true? it s just a theory right now. nobody knows what kind of candidate beto o rourke on the national stage, what kind of candidate he would actually be. one of the things we also don t know is how long this weeding out process is going to take. we re living in an environment that everything is sped up. and the days that these candidates could go net ain andn for months and months and months and months. in the political environment, people jump in and it s very obvious they have to jump out. we ll get it soon, i guess. when we come back, the
next month or so. is it going to be a problem for them if we have 20, 30 candidates? that s a weeding out process which means a lot of lumps for the eventual winner. yeah. what will happen is the person who distinguishing themselves from the herd is going to have an advantage. if you ll remember, the crowded gop field when they had the first debate, the very first question of the first debate was an easy one. a no-brainer. is there anybody on stage that will not support the eventual nominee of the republican party. guess who raised his hand? it was donald trump. so what he achieved, even by answering the question incorrectly, he distinguished himself from the pack. that s what will have to happen to 1 of these democrats or more. they re going to fight each other to distinguish themselves from the pack. great having these conversations with you. thanks a lot.
