Women’s participation in banking sector on rise

The banking and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) have made significant progress in including more women in their workforce, according to a conducted by Bangladesh Bank (BB).
Six state-owned banks, three specialized commercial banks, 41 private commercial banks and nine foreign commercial banks are operating in the country.
Some 28,078 women are working in banking sector, which is 18.67 per cent of total employees in the sector. At the same time, the number of male employee in the banks is 150,432, according to the January-June 2020 report of BB.
The 41 private commercial banks employ 17,603 female and 93,175 male, and the percentage of women is 18.89 per cent. The foreign commercial banks employ 978 female and 2949 male staff, taking the percentage of the female workforce to 33.16 per cent.
