we ll get an update on the current state of the virus amid a rise in hospitalizations across the united states. good morning, and welcome to way too early on this wednesday, september 6th. i m jonathan lemire, and thanks for starting your day with us. and we ll begin this morning with the stiffest punishment handed down so far for anyone involved in the january 6th capitol attack. enrique tarrio, the former national chairman of the proud boys, was sentenced to 22 years in prison following his conviction on a seditious conspiracy charge for playing a central role in the 2021 insurrection. his sentence is the longest so far, surpassing the 18 years given to oath keeper s founder stewart rhodes. now, prosecutors had sought a 33-year term for tarrio. wearing an orange jumpsuit, an emotional tarrio offered apologies to law enforcement and washington, d.c. residents for his involvement. he asked the judge to show mercy and vowed that he is done with politics. the judge timothy
now, there s not been a ruling as of yet. the judge said meadows would need to be arraigned in the case as scheduled if there s not been a decision by then. that arraignment for meadows, trump, and 17 others now has a date. it s been scheduled for next wednesday, september 6th. they re set to begin at 9:30 a.m. and run at 15-minute intervals. there s no word yet on whether those arraignments will need to be in person or if they can be virtual. ray smith, an attorney for trump s 2020 campaign in georgia, became the first defendant to enter a plea. hours after the arraignments were scheduled, smith pleaded not guilty. he faces 12 counts including a number of conspiracy and false statement charges. he surrendered last week and was released on $50,000 bond. joining us now state attorney for palm beach county, dave
