meteorologist derek van dam is tracking the latest. remember only one foot of rain can float a vehicle. two feet of rushing water can float an suv down a stream. not a good idea. there is a reason the national weather service talks about turn around don t drown when you see a flooded roadway. 46 reports of tornadoes on wednesday. we currently have a severe thunderstorm watch near the texas and oklahoma border. that lasts through 7:00 a.m. local time. this is right in the heart of the busiest severe weather part of the season. around 276 tornadoes on average during the month of may. we reported 46 just in one day alone. one wedge tornado caught on camera in nebraska. unfortunately unfortunately, it is not over yet. john mentioned we have another
of rain. 220 millimeters. you can see that occurred within a 24 hour period. but it really was that, that, two-hour period where they received their heaviest of rain. just 5 1/2 inches that, that led to some of that localized flooding. get sowing much rain in such a short amount of time. and you don t want to see this. this is actually a tornado shelter. the ground was so saturated from heavy rain that came through oklahoma city. it helped to unearth this, what sa is protection from tornadic events. not what you want to see when you look at safetien one of the via, heavy rain, lifting that tornado shelter out of ground. there were wedge tornados reported. there were rope tornados reported. this is a half mile wide, wedge tornado in the hardy, nebraska region. 46 tornados in total. one now just popping up on the eastern side of, colorado. but you can see. generally from northern texas through oklahoma. nebraska, and chance cancel. that was really the, the main

but i could look at this tornado all day long. it hayappeared to be two tornadoes. the one from fairdale that was the one that started off like a small tornado innocently enough and then it grew in size and became a stove pipe what you re looking at there. and then it actually turned into almost like a quarter mile to a half mile wedge tornado. i was looking at the maps of the populations of northern illinois just to see how fortunate or unfortunate we were. it was strong and on the ground for 30 or 40 miles. there was one fatality. this one over mostly rural areas. all big cities were avoided. where our crews are this morning, it s in fairdale. that is literally a small town. it has 3 main roads that go north to south and about two or three roads that go east to west. this is the fairdale area. there s probably only about 20
