At least 7 tornadoes reportedly touched down south of the Twin Cities

An unexpected night of twisters stunned Minnesotans south of the Twin Cities Wednesday night, with at least seven tornadoes confirmed by law enforcement and trained spotters.
The National Weather Service is expected to conduct damage surveys on Thursday, but early reports show some tree damage from the storms, though no structures have been reported as being damaged by the tornadoes.

Clouds and rain today will give way to clearing skies and cool temperatures on Saturday, with highs expected to remain in the 40s. Sunday will feature clouds and precipitation once again, though this time with snow during the morning that transitions to rain in the afternoon, says the Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service (NWS).

A band of very heavy snow has migrated closer to the Twin Cities metro area, prompting the National Weather Service to expand a winter storm warning to cover parts of the southwest metro.
At 7:15 a.m. the NWS said: A line of heavy snow will slowly drift northeast and stall out near the Mississippi River this morning. The heaviest amounts will be southwest of the Mississippi River, with amounts rapidly dropping off northeast of the Mississippi River. Please drive slowly and with caution under this band of snow.

A powerful winter storm remains on track to plow through southern Minnesota late Sunday night and through the day Monday.
Snowfall amounts of 5-8 inches are forecast in an area of southwest and south-central Minnesota, where a winter storm warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. The warning is surrounded by a winter weather advisory, where 3-5 inches of snow is possible. A band of precipitation will lift northeast into southern Minnesota late tonight, quickly becoming all snow. This will be a heavy, wet snow with rates of over an inch per hour possible. The snow will taper off during the late morning into early afternoon on Monday, explains the National Weather Service.
