cozumel, belize. this is cuba and this is jamaica. and right in here is our tropical depression number 19. and if this becomes another named storm, which i think it will later today, it will be richard. now this storm has its eyes mostly set here on either northern mexico, western cuba, and possibly there in south florida. we ve had a lot of storms this season, but we haven t had any hurricanes heading for the u.s. as of now, the hurricane center still expects this to be more of mexico s problem, especially areas around cancun and cozumel. it locks like it will become a hurricane and then possibly a strong tropical storm. the reason i m saying that we can t rule out south florida, each of these squiggly lines represents a possible path by our weather computers that put the equations in and try to predict where it s going to be five days from now. and notice that two of our computers take it up here to south florida, just south of the tampa area. this is a path that would be similar to

well, now for a look at national weather let s turn to nbc meteorologist bill karins. he has your weather channel forecast, which i can sum up in one word. hot. yeah. i m sick of saying that word. no kidding. this is bad. this is getting to a different level. yeah, dangerous. when we have heat waves like this and they last day after day after day, that s when usually we start getting deadly heat waves. that s probably the case this week. before i get to the heat wave, we had a tropical storm form off the florida coast. too close for comfort. thankfully this will be drifting away from florida and the southeast coast. it doesn t look like it will actually become a hurricane but down anyone in the bahamas is getting hit by gusty winds and rain and maybe bermuda in a couple days. here s the southeast coastline. all of these wavy spaghetti lines, there s our different weather computers telling wrus they think the storm is going to go. you can see the consensus definitely takes it away
heavy winter weather that is striking parts of the northern plains. not only snow, where some places may see up to 8 to 14 inches of snowfall saturday morning, but also the winds of 35 to 45 miles per hour. every spot you see shaded in red, including parts of the central plains and northern plains, including the dakotas, you have the blizzard watches or warnings. you want to see what a blizzard can do. this video sent in from minnesota, this is parts of the i-95 corridor. when we talk about blizzards, primarily a wind event. proof positive right here. listen to that. you can just hear that wind just racing across those flat lands. picks up the snow and it is just unbelievable. some places subzero conditions were expected or experienced last night. they will be experienced this morning and through much of the weekend. obviously the new year ringing in with a vengeance. let s go back to the weather computers if we can and show you what s in store.
