DURHAM — The Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University and the Warren County Environmental Action Team will host an event at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 to showcase
A new exhibit in the Keohane-Kenan Gallery highlights the community’s response to the N.C. Governor’s decision to construct a toxic landfill in predominantly Black Warren County in 1978. Through legal challenges and grassroots organizing, the residents pushed back, coming together across racial and generational lines to launch a protest in 1982 that sparked the national environmental justice movement.
