Punjab govt inherited Rs1,300 bn liabilities: Buzdar

July 7, 2021 LAHORE: The PTI-led government inherited liabilities of Rs1,300 billion when it came into power in 2018. This was said by Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in a statement on Tuesday. He said the past rulers abandoned 4,000 incomplete schemes and cheques valuing Rs56 billion were bounced due to lack of cash cover as the past rulers left a drained-out treasury. Meanwhile, the past government took overdrafts of Rs 41 billion, he maintained. He said the past government, intentionally, left various schemes incomplete including the new Punjab Assembly building, Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology, Trimmu Thermal Power Project, Pakpattan Hydropower Project, Marala Hydropower Project, PKLI and Orange Line Metro Train, etc.

Corona vaccine to be introduced after successful trials: minister

Lahore January 19, 2021 LAHORE:Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has said the Punjab government shall introduce vaccine after successful trials. “The trials are being conducted as per international protocols. Only after successful trials, the true assessment can be made about the efficacy of the vaccine. The side-effects of the Corona vaccine are being reviewed,” she said while addressing a press conference at the Chief Minister Secretariat here on Monday. The health minister said that all vaccine manufacturers were in contact with the federal government. However, an apex Vaccine Management Committee, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, has been constituted whose members include Chief Secretary Punjab, IG Punjab, representative of Punjab Healthcare Commission and the Health Minister herself. Committees have been constituted at district level, she said.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Muhammad Basharat Raja moved a motion to extend the period of the ordinances remaining in effect, which was passed by a majority vote. He extension of the Sugar Factories Control Amendmen Ordinance 2012, Sugar Factories Control Second Amendment Ordinance 2012, Punjab Local Government Amendment Ordinance 2012, Profits of Companies (Workers Contribution) Amendment Ordinance 2020 and Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission Amendment Ordinance 2020 was approved.
