The United Way of Wayne County is getting ready to kick off its 2021 campaign with frontrunners who set the pace of the annual fundraising effort.
The frontrunners campaign begins July 12 and ends Aug. 15, with the United Wayâs annual campaign officially starting Aug. 19.
The frontrunners campaign, which includes major investors, used to be the pacesetters campaign, which began in Wayne County in the 1960s to set the pace for the rest of the drive.
In 1964, 23 pacesetters raised $35,568, 22% of that yearâs goal. In 1966, 41 pacesetters had a goal to raise $62,000. By 1978, the number of pacesetters decreased to 12, which raised nearly $106,897 toward the annual campaign goal of $473,200.
