KEY ACTION Approved over 800 acres in Wayne and Green townships to stay as farmland for the next 10 years.
DISCUSSION Wayne County commissioners approved two resolutions regarding farmland in Wayne and Green townships. The first resolution established a new agricultural security area (ASA) of 595.021 acres in the two townships, which includes land owned by Michael and Catherine Kauffman (130.93 acres), Jeffrey and Nancy Kauffman (120.097 acres), William Sandra and Brett Besancon (139.274 acres),and Daniel and Tonya Besancon (204.72 acres).
Kevin White, administrative assistant/planner of the Wayne County Planning Department, said the 595 acres “is its own, separate, standalone agricultural security area. The confusing part is that we already have an existing ASA in Green and Wayne townships, so this is the second one going in there.”
