DETROIT – For the seventh week in a row, the state of Michigan is the worst in the nation in terms of coronavirus cases.
“In the last couple of months, we have seen a rise in hospitalizations and cases in out percent positivity and frankly, we are right back where we were a year ago,” said, Detroit Chief Health Officer Denise Fair. “Right now, the virus is winning and the only way for us to fight back is to make sure that we are following those safety precautions and we’re limiting all our interactions so we can get back to normal.”

DETROIT – A meeting between GM officials and Black media owners was canceled Thursday by the automaker.
GM CEO Mary Barra had planned to meet with the Black media owners after a full-page advertisement in newspapers Sunday accused the automaker of being the “definition of systemic racism.”

GM had announced it will soon reschedule several meetings with the owners of Black-owned media companies after what was supposed to be an hour-long web meeting Thursday.
Shooting on Detroit’s east side hospitalizes 2 teenagers

DETROIT – A shooting Saturday night on Detroit’s east side sent two teenagers to the hospital in serious condition.
According to authorities, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old were in a parking lot near the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and Outer Drive when an unknown person began fighting and shots were fired.
The two teens were both struck and taken to a hospital where they were listed in temporary serious condition.
The investigation is ongoing.

The late Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon was a transcendent figure. He spent most of his law enforcement career with the Detroit Police Department becoming police chief in 1998.
Napoleon went on to become Wayne County assistant executive and then sheriff in 2009. It was his passion for Detroit that made him a household name. His charitable work included coat drives for kids and successful golf fundraisers.
Napoleon was a proud Cass Tech alumni spending years raising money for student programs. He was an admired and well respected law enforcement official. Those who know him say his daughter Tiffany is proof of his character. And that he set the bar high for future generations of Detroiters.
