DETROIT (FOX 2) - Could FEMA be considering Ford Field in Detroit as a regional mass vaccination center? That is the plan according to one Wayne County Commissioner who tells us we should learn more details about what will be happening as early as Tuesday.

All across the country efforts are being made to make sure large cities like Detroit are equipped to handle a massive vaccination effort as soon as thousands of doses become available. Wayne County Commissioner Ray Bashem says Ford Field could be part of the solution.

Residents of Wayne County, Michigan, which includes Detroit, face a lengthy delay for Concealed Pistol License (CPL) appointments that stretches into 2022.
Fox 2 reports that Wayne County Commissioner Melissa Daub was shocked to learn the wait time for a CPL appointment had reached ten months for her constituents. She called to set up an appointment for herself as a way of verifying the wait and learned the earliest date for an appointment was January 17, 2022.
Daub indicated the county clerk’s office has been handling CPL applicants on a face-to-fact basis since coronavirus rules took hold in March 2020. She believes the office is simply overwhelmed by the demand and unable to keep up.
The race for Dearborn mayor has a crowded field as three more candidates announced over the past week they re running to lead the city.
The three who declared their candidacies in recent days are former Dearborn City Council President Tom Tafelski, 50, former Wayne County Commissioner and former state Rep. Gary Woronchak, 65, and financial adviser Jim Parrelly, 62.
The three new candidates are in addition to three others who declared their intentions to run over the past month: Dearborn City Council President Susan Dabaja, Dearborn School Board member Hussein Berry and state Rep. Abdullah Hammoud, D-Dearborn.
As of Wednesday morning, Berry, Woronchak and Tafelski had filed paperwork with the City Clerk s Office and paid the $100 filing fee to be put on the ballot for the August primary, City Clerk George Darany told the Free Press. Candidates have until April 20 to file to run for mayor.
