Local labor union plans food distribution events for those in need

The Northern Valley Labor Council of the North Dakota AFL-CIO will distribute food for those in need at two events in the Grand Cities later this month.
The free boxes of food and gallons of milk will be given away beginning at noon Friday, April 16, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1515 Fifth Ave. N.W., East Grand Forks.

The Northern Valley Labor Council of the North Dakota AFL-CIO will distribute food baskets March 26 in the parking lot at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks.
The event begins at noon and continues until all the food is distributed. About 20 volunteers will hand out the boxes, weighing 30 pounds each, and gallon containers of milk in two lines, said Mark Froemke, president of the Northern Valley Labor Council.
The council is sponsoring the event in partnership with the North Dakota AFL-CIO, the St. Paul Federation of Labor and the USDA Farm to Family Program.

GRAND FORKS No matter the temperature, you will find 70-year-old Donna Stumpf somewhere around Grand Forks ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. I m old, so I can t handle it like the kids can, she said.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15, she did a 7-hour shift outside the Columbia Mall. Today is a short day, she said with a laugh.
