good morning , doug. the waves are significant. they are menacing is what i would call them. the impact off t the storm the of the storm is expected to come north of here. for hundreds of miles around everyone will feel the impact. you talk about those wave heights. i am standing on the beach here this water is coming just about up to my feet just about up to this fence that protects these dune areas along the beach. as far as the wave hikes are concerned we have a beau rewell offshore indicating wave hikes 23 feet. as far as the wind speeds are concerned that buoy is reporting 40 miles per hour sustained winds gusting up to about 53 or so. it doesn t quite feel that bad right here at the moment along the beach. that is what we expect in the coming hours it will get worse and worse. the fear here is all of this water you see rushing up the beach will go well past this fence on up to the boardwalk
starting to curve towards the left. we re seeing a lot of heavy rain across portions of the mid-atlantic region. that is where we see some of the highest rainfall couple lakeses with 10:00 since possible. 10 inches is possible. sandy is spanning over 800900 miles. we ll see effects as far as the great lakes region. wave heights as high as 25 feet. blizzard warnings in effect across the state of west begin where we could pick up two to three feet of snow. so a lot of impacts from sandy. here is the center of circulation. looks impressive on the our radar image. this is a sign it is intensifying looking impressive on. pressure is dropping, 943 millibars. that is incredibly impressive for a storm system this far north as far as hurricanes go and the
there. we re looking at wave heights anywhere from 4 to 6 feet. that old fishing pier still staying intact but we re keeping a careful eye on it. part of that did come apart during hurricane isabelle back in 2003. so one of the things we ll be watching just kind of gauge. this but the real window of deterioration here is going to be in the late night to overnight hours here along the eastern north carolina area. that s when we re going to see those tropical storm-force winds come into play. also coastal flooding, possibly some power outages as well. high tide, by the way, is around 6:30 tonight. as you can see the tide right now pretty far out to sea. but certainly those western edges of hurricane sandy are making themselves known here in north carolina. but we really haven t seen anything yet. keep in mind some perspective here, no matter how bad it gets here this is going to be a taste of what is to come perhaps in the northeast come monday or tuesday. so now is really the time to pr
no, we re still here because we re still dealing with isaac, alex. it s now passed us to our north. it s behind us, about 100 miles or so to the keys. it looks dark over there. a lot of heavy rain through the florida keys, through the florida straits. we had some here, but the worst of the weather has moved on out. this is very warm water, water temperatures, 87, 88 degrees. that s why we re forecasting for other reasons, too, and intensifying isaac becoming a hurricane today or tonight. wave heights out here, 6 toate feet, and we had a lot of beach erosion. let s take you to the eastern side of cuba where now in the recovery phase in guantanamo. also the other provinces and the santiago area. they re recovering from what they dealt with. let s go and take a look at the wave action. this is a sea wall area where people like to gather. they have those across a lot of latin american countries, especially down here in the caribbean. they have one in havana.
