Brian Olson of St. Charles, a military cybersecurity expert, has been named April s Featured Alumnus at Waubonsee Community College.
Giving back to support the community that nurtured your learning and development into adulthood is one of the most fulfilling things one can achieve. Olson is not only a success story for the community college education system, but he is also giving back by serving as a member of an advisory council for Waubonsee s new Cybersecurity Program as an alumnus. Olson was recognized by the college s board of trustees at their regularly scheduled meeting on April 21.

They both laughed and Garcia countered with the sort of question everyone approaching graduation wants answered: “Can you actually help me pay for school?”
A few minutes later, she realized he wasn’t joking. He thought Garcia would be a great candidate for their PLEDGE program with Northern Illinois University.
Now Garcia is graduating college and back in the Rochelle School District, where she grew up. She’s got a degree in elementary education with an English as a Second Language and Bilingual endorsement. And Rochelle picked up a large amount of her college tuition tab in exchange for teaching five years back in her hometown.

On Saturday, Feb. 20, College of DuPage Professor of Astronomy Joe DalSanto will discuss new discoveries and technology that are fundamentally changing the way astronomers study the universe during A New View of the Universe from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Waubonsee s Black History Month to explore history, poetry, music and more

• Black Greek Poets, 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11. An international poetry network of college-educated creatives with a focus on members of historically Black Greek fraternities and sororities within the National Pan-Hellenic Council, will use their platform as a means to bridge poetry and the power of community engagement through fostering a safe space where artistic pursuit can be nourished and positively developed. Join Rashid White, Jeffrey Big Homey Banks and Andrew Drew Drake as they share their spoken word poetry and provide an open mic for others to share their artistic expressions and receive feedback from the Black Greek Poets themselves.
