Watertown schools shifts to remote learning for three weeks, district logs 7 more COVID cases

WATERTOWN — A sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 cases within the Watertown City School District has prompted the district to shift to a fully remote learning model for the next three weeks. In a letter to the school community Friday afternoon, Superintendent Patricia B. LaBarr confirmed the district had to make the “difficult” decision to shift to its remote learning plan, which will begin Monday and go through Jan. 29. “The decision to close school was not made lightly,” she said. “Watertown has decided that closing school for all students was a necessary precaution to prevent further spread of COVID-19 throughout our District and community.”

Sensenbrenner announces 2021 academy nominees

BROOKFIELD — Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Menomonee Falls, has announced the nomination of 31 candidates from Wisconsin’s Fifth Congressional District for appointment to the U.S. service academies, with some from the Watertown area. “This year Wisconsin’s Fifth Congressional District yielded another outstanding group of students interested in attending the academies, Sensenbrenner said. They have demonstrated the ability to serve our nation, and I wish them all tremendous success. I would like to thank our Academy Selection Committee for the work they put into interviewing and assessing this year’s applicants. Their efforts play a vital role in this process. As I approach my retirement from Congress in a few short days, I can say the ability to nominate students to our nation’s service academies has been one of the highest honors.”
