HOSPITALITY businesses and arts organisations are excitedly preparing to open their doors to the public after months of Covid closure. On Monday Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed restrictions would ease from May 17, with hugs, trips and indoor drinking all on the cards. Step three of the Government’s road map out of lockdown will allow indoor hospitality, indoor entertainment, and the rest of the accommodation sector to reopen. The Rule of Six, or two households, will also apply for meeting indoors. Phil Walker, landlord of the New Union in Kendal, said he was ‘really excited’ but said the industry is still struggling.
Gareth Bale pens 15-year deal for Elevens Bar & Grill
Ahead of its reopening, Champions League winning footballer Gareth Bale has signed a new 15-year lease for his Cardiff city centre venue, Elevens Bar & Grill.
Elevens opened in May 2017 following an extensive redevelopment of the S.A Brain-owned venue on Castle Street – a new partnership between the brewery and the newly formed Elevens Group.
In December 2020, S.A. Brain announced that contracts had been exchanged with Marston’s plc. to operate its portfolio of pubs in Wales. As a result of these operational changes, Elevens has now become a fully independent venture, co-owned by Wales and Tottenham star Gareth Bale and his business partner Jamie Humphrys, with S.A Brain as landlords.
1/1 IT HAD been a while since we had strolled along the banks of Lake Windermere – 27 years, to be precise. The last time we had holidayed in the South Lakes was on our honeymoon. The scenery, if not those taking it in, seemed virtually unchanged from way back when. This enforced year of the “staycation” can also be a timely reminder of what we have on our doorstep. The Lake District, and its natural beauty, is right at the top of that list. We had shamefully overlooked it for too long. So, it was great to be back, drinking in the views and enjoying the chilled ambience. Once we’d got into Ambleside that is.
