Please welcome from the 32nd Congressional District of california, grace napolitano. Good day to all of you and welcome to my working office sort to speak. Water. About 71 of the earth surface is water. But you would never know it by the pictures of my own state of california over the past few years. My constituents and i lived through the worst drought on record since recordkeeping began 100 years ago. And as californians in the audience knows, drought affects everything and everybody. Washing, bathing, brushing, gardening, farming, eating. You name it. And water restrictions arent friendly conditions either for business. Imagine your favorite restaurant or local starbucks being short on water. The challenges of water scarcity are ongoing even when the drought ends and ours has not. You have to be smart and plan ahead. And that is what compelled me to lead efforts in congress to invest in new Water Technologies including desalination and recycling. [ applause ] thank you. I am proud t
Gutting the environmental protections of the delta. This is another water war in california we do not need. What we need is some wise legislation that actually can solve the problem. Gutting the endangered species act, overriding the biological opinions, taking away the clean water act and simply turning the pumps on is not a solution. It is in fact the death nell of the delta. Knell of the delta. Along with governor browns tunnels, it will end the delta. Lets go the wife science with realtime monitoring of what is happening in the depellta is how we determine whether to ramp up or reduce the pumping in the delta. That is not in the bill. Take a look at the opponents. Weve got the two delta interests, mr. Mcnerney and myself, weve got the san juan queen valleys. This is not the way to hannle it. Not in an appropriation. Not in a bill that guts the environmental protections and simply turns the pumps on. I yield back. The chair the gentleman has yielded. How much time do i have left . T
Alameda county Sheriffs Office after a midnight chase through town. Instead of giving up you can see he tried to escape, backed into that retaining wall and gunned the car forward towards the deputy. Thats when the deputy fired in selfdefense. I heard like four to five gunshots. My daughter comes, mom, theres gunshots. I put her inside and i see and theres cops coming from everywhere. Yes, it was like oh, my god. Reporter the deputy shots hit the hood of the stolen vw, the windshield and the headrest of the drivers seat. But somehow missed the suspect and his female passenger. Both were taken into custody after the car crashed into this telephone pole. The woman later released, the suspect a 26yearold man from hayward arrested. This appears to have taken the brunt of the crash that occurred about an hour ago. We got here and you are tons of people standing on street watching this unfold. I want to bring in chuck smith. He has been here for most of the scene to tell us what he saw. Tell us what you saw. Coastal areas, but were not expecting it to rain heavily all weekend long. It is going to be dreary and damp and cloudy for the most part, but by sunday, we see a slight sign of improvement already. This area of low pressure is developing here. Its still not fully developed, but theyre going to get maybe up to 20 inches of rain in parts of the carolinas, once it really gets going. And that continual fetch from the east will of course bring some coastal flooding to our area. And the worst will be at the jersey shore. Thats the highest impact and were talking about moderate coastal flooding, the highest waves. Another 1. 5 inches of rain expected there and wind gusts to 50. As you go north, the impacts are not quite as intense. Minor impacts for the back bay areas around the city and across Long Island Sound, as well. Catskills, poconos, well see the lowest impacts at high tide. Youll still see some minor coastal flooding over parts of long island and Long Island Sound pant the time of h
