Pennsylvania residents in danger of being disconnected from their water services have about a month to apply for financial assistance to pay their water bills.
Philadelphia Water Department will resume shutting off delinquent accounts on May 31. Accounts with $1,000 or more in past due payments are at risk of shutoff. Households with at least one child younger than 18, senior citizens older than 65, or people with disabilities can avoid shutoff.
A self-described "little old Sicilian lady" had battled the water department since 2021. City officials say residents should reach out if their bills are based on estimates, not meter readings.
