Aaron is a native of michigan, not far from lansing. He did his undergraduate work at northwestern before spending some time working in washington, d. C. As a congressional staffer and then moved on to the university of virginia where he studied under gary gallagher. Published his dissertation with the university of North Carolina press. The book is entitled why confederates fought family and nation in civil war virginia.
