A 110-year-old water pumping station on the South Side went offline Thursday morning, temporarily leaving thousands of households, businesses and schools without water service and leading to a boil order, according to officials.
Chicago Water Management officials announced the boil order “out of an abundance of caution” for those affected by a power outage at the Roseland Pumping Station, mostly affecting people in Beverly and Morgan Park.
ComEd maintenance led to a power outage at the station, affecting the water pressure from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., said Water Commissioner Andrea Chang, at a livestreamed news conference Thursday.
