and that s 156-mile-an-hour winds so that s what, a cat 4? that s between a cat 4 and a cat 5 but that is why we are going to focus on tampa because as this storm pushes up, depending on where it actually makes landfall, it s going to push all that water, potentially, into that bay and that water just sits there. you re familiar with florida. that water doesn t go anywhere and it s a real problem, especially when you re talking about, again, some of these points of interest. the hospital here, they re going to have to get that hospital evacuated if it looks like this thing is going to make significant landfall in tampa. but again, cone of uncertainty. so we ll keep an eye on that. and a few hours to get this done and dealt be. that s going to do it for me this hour. thomas roberts picks up our coverage at the top of the hour live from miami with the very latest on the path of hurricane irma and what lies ahead for those who did not evacuate to higher ground. stay with us here on
these are getting up on top of the roof. abby: that is a traffic light in the middle of that image. that is how high the water is. it looks like a foot away from the top of the traffic light. rick, can you see the image we are looking at? this is just how high these waters already are and how much more we have still to go. a long ways to go. tropical storm allison in 2001 was their biggest flood of her, about thousand cars were flooded. 70,000 cars stranded, water came up all around it. houston is about 80 feet elevation, 80 feet above sea level. follow the path of least resistance with gravity towards the ocean and to what to go into the golf. the water doesn t go anywhere very quickly and that is why the flooding is with us because they can t get anywhere because everything around it is flooded. this is 48 hours of the storm.
these areas. well, i don t think we re even going to get to a hotel tonight, i really don t. i think we re going to be stuck on the roadway here, driving one or two miles per hour because these roads are flooded. they re completely shut down. the managers are saying the managers are saying please, don t get on the road. well, we have to. we re trying to get to a hotel. and we re trying to bring you the pictures. i just don t know how that s going to go. when you get 10 inches of rain we had 10 inches of rain in many areas, from that area back across into mustang and into southwest, oklahoma city. and even northern parts of moore, 6-8 inchings of rain there. this water doesn t go very far. it s not like it s going to run off very quickly. this is flat land. and this is clay. so this run off is going to be dangerous.
