Should Russia decide to cut or even halt its pipeline natural gas supplies to Europe, it could get rather cold in Germany unless sufficient supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are sourced. The problem is there are no LNG terminals in Germany so far for freighters to feed their cargo into the national pipeline system. .
The German government is now aiming to build liquefied natural gas terminals to become less dependent on Russian gas. But are they really a sound investment, given the need for climate-friendly energy?
